What's In Your Cup?

This 2006 Broadmoore Estates San Francisco Bay Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of plum, blackberry and caramel, with hints of toast and freshly shaved wood. The wine has a medium-weight mouth-feel with appreciable acidity and integrated tannin. The finish is medium to long with a pleasing aftertaste. Enjoy this wine with pasta and Alfredo sauce, medium sharp cheddar or a grilled sausage sandwich.

*** Label History: Our Broadmoore Estates is named for just such a street. John Lynch learned to ride his bike on Broadmoore Drive in San Ramon, California. Although he’s long ago given up training wheels, he dedicates this wine to all the streets in the world where new life-lessons are taught and to the spirit of adventure inherent in all of us. May it never die. ***

Wine Tip For The Week

What is the Difference between Syrah and Shiraz? Any guesses? It is the same grape, it is called Shiraz in Australia and South Africa.

Fun Fact Friday

Syrah (see-rah) gets its name from the city of Shiraz, which is the city of flowers, wine, and poetry in Persia(Iran). The process of wine making possibly originated here 7000 years ago.

Thursday's Tip

Aging Wines

Beware! After 20+ years a cork will start to crumble or break while opening. Patience and a good corkscrew is a must!

Cleansing Your Palate! What do I use?

Have you ever wondered if one should cleanse their palate between wine tastings?

The answer is YES! White bread or water is your best cleanser. Offer other food items for your guests after your tastings! Be careful fruits can make your wine taste sour. Cheers!

Thursday's Tip

What Type of Wine Cork is Best?

Wine must be sealed to stop air from entering the bottle, which is traditionally a cork. TIP: The longest and least-marked corks are of the finest quality, including good wine suitable for aging. Plastic and reconstituted corks are inexpensive alternatives used on modest wines.

  • Solid Cork - Made from Oak Bark. Sheets are treated to kill bacteria, then corks are stamped out.
  • Reconstituted Cork - Made from compressed cork chips and dust.
  • Plastic Corks - Hard to extract and does not age well.
